Stephen Michael Foundation launched in Meekatharra

The Stephen Michael Foundation has been launched in Meekatharra. The program is a joint South Fremantle Football Club and Shire of Meekatharra Youth Service initiative.

At the launch Tom Bottrell CEO of South Fremantle Football Club spoke of the commitment that is to be made to this program, stating it was not an overnight fix  but the foundation would be here for the long term.

Stephen Michael also spoke of his passion to make a difference, whilst highlighting things that had changed his life for the better. He encouraged the youth of Meekatharra to make the effort and "Reach High"to improve their own outcomes in life.

The foundation aims to improve lifestyle, education and sporting outcomes by creating relevant and innovative programs. A college will be opened in South Fremantle in 2018 giving youth greater opportunities to improve their lives.

The foundation acknowledged the support from Westgold Resources and Doray Minerals in assisting them to come to Meekatharra.

The name leading the foundation, Stephen Michael,is touted as being one of the greatest WA footballers of all time. From humble beginnings in Kojonup he moved to South Fremantle Football Club winning two Sandover Medals also being named South Fremantle Football Club Fairest and Best five times.

Over the couple of days he was in town many people made themselves known to Stephen with lots of stories being recounted.

Stephen has himself made a personal commitment to return to Meekatharra on a very regular basis to ensure the community continues to maintain confidence in this positive initiative.
