Following the completion of scheduled runway, taxiway and apron that included the RFDS area sealing works at the Meekatharra airport, the public is advised that the airport has re-opened to normal operations from the 3rd of April 2024.

The airport will be closed from Sunday, 10th March until Sunday, 31st March to undertake resealing of all pavement areas at the aerodrome.

Notice is hereby given for the temporary daily closure of the intersection of Connaughton Street and the Great Northern Highway to all traffic from 6am Saturday 16th March 2024 to 5pm Monday 18th March 2024 inclusive.

The Shire of Meekatharra will be undertaking roadworks on the median strips on Main Street (Great Northern Highway) between the intersections Savage to High Streets in order to repair damage to the median strip. The works are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 19th December 2023 for the duration of one (1) day.

In accordance with section 4.56 (a) of the Local Government Act 1995, and regulation 30 (1) of the Local Government (Elections) Regulations 1997, at the close of nominations 4.00pm Thursday 7th September 2023 there being more candidates received than vacancies, a drawing of lots for positions on the ballot paper will be conducted.

The Shire Presidents of Meekatharra and Wiluna continue to lobby the WA State Government to support the complete sealing of the remaining 124km of unsealed road between Wiluna and Meekatharra.

In accordance with section 5.25 of the Local Government Act 1995 and regulation 12 of the Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996 the scheduled Shire of Meekatharra Ordinary Meeting dates for 2023/24 year are as follows:

Submissions are invited under section 3.58 of the Local Government Act 1995 to comment on the proposal to lease a portion of land situated within Lot 33 (Part) on Deposited Plan 205573 to Viva Energy Australia Pty Ltd for the purposes of providing aviation fuel products to the Royal Flying Doctor Service base operations at the Meekatharra airport.

The Shire of Meekatharra will be undertaking further roadworks on the median strips on Main Street (Great Northern Highway) from outside the Shire Office to outside the Royal Mail Hotel as well as on Savage Street between the Shire Office and IGA and on High Street outside the Corner Store.

The Shire of Meekatharra will undertake road works on Main Street from the 11th to 18th of April.

The Shire’s of Meekatharra and Wiluna have jointly prepared a Petition to the WA Parliament Legislative Council to initiate a parliamentary inquiry into the sealing of the remaining section of the unsealed Goldfields Highway without delay.
