Meekatharra’s beloved annual celebration received a fresh new name for 2025 — The Spirit of Meekatharra. Formerly known as the Meekatharra Outback Festival, the new name reflects something deeper than location or tradition; it captures the heart of what makes Meekatharra truly special — its vibrant, inclusive, and creative community.
This year’s festival brought an exciting line-up of events designed to bring people together in the lead-up to the main weekend. New community workshops included Cooking & Yarning with the Storyteller Chef, and a collaborative Mural on Canvas with Bobbi Lockyer that brought all ages together to contribute, celebrating creativity, culture, and connection.
One of the highlights of the festival was the ‘Dining Under The Stars’ | Paint & Eat experience in the stunning surrounds of Peace Gorge. This special evening featured live music from Stephen Pigram and his grandson Chase Pigram, good company, and a chance to create a collaborative canvas masterpiece with 2021 NAIDOC Artist of the Year, Bobbi Lockyer. All while enjoying a specially curated dining experience under the wide outback sky with the Storyteller Chef, Zach Green.
As always, the signature Meeka Made Art Exhibition returned, opening Saturday 27 September. Showcasing local and regional talent, the exhibition was part of a festive day full of markets, live entertainment with country musician Adam Brand, the "saltwater country" music of The Pigram Brothers, and rising star, musician Jason Ayres. Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed interactive workshops, sideshow alley, fireworks and a feast of food vendors offering flavours from near and far.
The Spirit of Meekatharra brought locals and visitors together, enjoying a week to create, celebrate, and feel the unique pulse of this incredible outback town.
The 2025 event was held from Thursday 25 September - Saturday 27 September.
