Council Election - Nominations Open

SHIRE OF MEEKATHARRA
ORDINARY ELECTION
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS


Nominations are called for an in-person ordinary Council election to be held on Saturday 21 October 2023 to fill the following Council vacancies:


District:

4 Councilors – 4 year terms
1 Councilor - 2 year term


Nominations open on Thursday 31 August 2023.
Nominations close at 4.00 pm on Thursday 7 September 2023.


Nominations must be lodged with the Returning Officer at any time during the above period between 9am and 4pm.


Nomination Requirements

Candidates are required to lodge the following with the Returning Officer:
  • a completed nomination in the prescribed form which has been signed and witnessed. This form is available from the Returning Officer;
  • a single A4 page profile containing not more than 1,000 characters (including spaces) containing information about the candidate;
  • a recent passport sized photograph (optional);
  • every candidate must have completed the online Local Government Candidate Induction Course available at www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au prior to nominating. The reference number must be provided on their nomination form lodged with the Returning Officer;
  • a nomination deposit of $100.00; and
  • in addition to your A4 profile (optional), you may provide additional information that you consider to be relevant to your candidate profile. This additional written statement must not be more than 2,000 characters (including spaces), must be in the English language and is for publication on the local government official website.

Where an agent lodges a nomination on behalf of a candidate, it must be in the prescribed form including written authorization signed by the candidate.
Nominations may be hand delivered, posted, faxed or emailed to the Returning Officer at the nomination place listed below. Where a nomination form is lodged by post, fax or email, the candidate must ensure payment of the prescribed nomination fee is simultaneously received with the completed nomination form that will validate the candidate’s nomination.
